Kusam Klimb

I must say when they say 'Are you tough enough?' they mean it..... 2 1/2 hours to run vertically up the mountain, slide through the snow on the other side for 13 some kilometers and run another 10 kilometers, they gotta be tough enough. 8 hours later, and I Conquered Mt H'Kusam!!! but my hips were screaming every time I tried to right myself at the tip and elbows were giving up before I had barely started. The knees then complained, No more slips, slides and jars. I am sure that given another 4 hours I would have made it back to where I started. As it was, I was at checkpoint 3 at the cut off point and was transported back. Walk back to the car, up steps to let dogs in and out, down steps, drive home, up and down steps 3 times.... by now I could barely walk... its 6:30 so into the bath for a soak.... napped for a couple of hours and watched soccer game Russia winning. down stairs with the dogs and back up and down again and over to let other dog out so up and down steps again, and AGAIn at home.... and I thought I would sleep..... muscles were screaming I guess and didn't sleep well at all, but got up feeling not to bad at all and the more the day went on the more I thought, 'that really wasn't so bad after all!'.
To day felt worse actually, tightened up a bit I guess but it worked itself out in the garden.

I must say that this climb was nothing like I was expecting. I was expecting ropes, but not vertical slippery rocks and places where it was hard to find toe holds. I was expecting snow, but definitely not what was there! And everyone is in such a panic to get over the top in the shortest time, they don't savor the scenery and take their time, make it easier going up the slopes. It's make your own way on the slippery slopes. And the back side, going down. That was amazing. Ropes HAD to be used as it was just about straight down the snowy incline and if you slipped, you would be wrapped around a tree or dropped into a hole around the trees where the snow had melted out, probably the snow was 8' deep. There were gouges in the snow where boots/shoes had guided each person down, and by the time it was my turn as I was swept off the mountain by the sherpa's it was ideal to sit in and slide down. Got rather damp in the process, but wow, was it fun.

I believe there were approx 330 runners/walkers this year.

While our media has been covering, in great detail, the Max Bernier Affair, the government has made plans to designate some of our 'off the beaten path' lakes as Toxic Dump Sites. This is the most asinine decision on the part of the government and how ever did this pass the environmental minister ? I'll tell you why this is happening. It is another way to inflict illness on the population. "Unknown" illnesses which are treated with drugs, supporting Big Pharma. Another way to gain 'control' of the people. How many people do you know that are NOT on mediation? At one time, the question would have been - how many people do you know that are ON mediation?
Isn't the government supposedly Environmentally Friendly? Concerned about pollution and toxic waste? And don't they realize that dumping ANYTHING ANYWHERE but especially in water of all places is ending up in our water supply? But thats the plan you see!

Gravel

What was it with three gravel trucks traveling up and down Salmon River Main a couple of weeks ago? And the piles of gravel down by the Dry Land Sort?
I would at least like to thank the trucks for keeping the gravel stretch of the road by the Elk River bridge in great shape. Most of the time it is an obstacle course around the pot holes!

Tom Regan, a philosophy professor emeritus at North Carolina State University and author of "Empty Cages," sees the death and suffering of defective animals as a grave ethical misstep. "The animals used for these purposes are in fundamental ways like us -- their behavior tells us they're like us, evolutionary theory tells us they're like us," he says. Did you know that Big Pharma is using ANIMALS, in particular, goats, to produce a drug called antithrombin. A humman gene is spliced into New Zealand pygmy goats and this 'drug' is produced in their milk. Its a stroke and heart attack drug. 90% of these animals are euthanized due to the fact that they do not produce this dug and also from the large number of birth defects which have no known origin.

I am not sure where to start on here but I may as well post something to get us going. I am hoping to bring some interesting information; information that may make you think and ponder; information that may blow your mind; and some things you may not believe.

My days seem to be full of gardening between the showers lately, and running up and down the highway but this is something that I have wanted to experiment with for a long time. What I see around me, what I see on TV, what I hear and what I read infuriates me at times to the point of dumbfoundedness. What is happening to us? What is being done to us? Why are we so mute?

On another note:

This piece was written shortly after the verdict was read at the 'Willie' Pickton Trial in Vancouver in December of 2007.

Fallen Angels

Many years of anguish
and many tears were shed
